I know this is an entertainment blog, so those of you who don’t care to see posts about sports might want to skip this one. In fact, those of you who only care to see sports played the way they should might want to skip this post as well. Because this post is about the train wreck (not Rambling Wreck) that currently is Georgia Tech basketball and the all-time ACC record for futility the team set Thursday night.

On January 21, 2015, a day that will live in Tech sports infamy, Tech put on its worst offensive display since the 1946-47 season in a 57-28 loss to the University of Virginia. That’s 28 points in 40 minutes of basketball. With a shot clock. And the three-point basket (not that the three-point rule helped Tech, which went 0-12 from three-point range). In 40 minutes of play, Tech scored 12 baskets; that’s slightly better than one basket each four-minute stretch between TV timeouts. That’s worse marksmanship than the villains display in any James Bond movie.

In tallying only 28 points against Virginia, Georgia Tech set an all-time record for the fewest points scored in a regular season ACC basketball game (some tournament games in which one or both teams simply held the ball had lower scores, notably an infamous 12-10 game between N.C. State and Duke in the 1968 ACC tourney). Never in the 62 years of ACC basketball had a team scored only 28 points in a regular season game… until now.
